The Magic of Immersion

The Magic of Immersion

This is Anthony Flatt, today I wanna talk about “immersion”. The best way to learn anything is to immerse yourself in it. This is something that I learned a long time ago. It is really part of multi-level marketing. Those that are in multi-level marketing know that a lot of what the multi-level marketing companies do is to inundate you with training material.

Really what they are trying to do is immerse you into their training programs. Trying to not only build your education but also build your inspiration and aspirations to build a business in their multi-level program.

I’m a big fan of multi-level marketing. I belong to a number of multi-level marketing. Some of them I have been a member of for 10-20+ years.

I don’t really do multi-level marketing today not because I don’t believe in it but because I just to be honest with you don’t like going out and meeting people.

Especially strangers. People I don’t know. People that I don’t know if they have similar interests. I really enjoy spending time with people that have the same interests that I do. I’m a very busy person and that’s just not what I want to do. I don’t want to go out to coffee shops and gas stations and meet people.

Now they are using internet marketing now more and more but there’s still a lot of that foot traffic and that’s just not for me. I do know lots of people that are multi-millionaires from multi-level marketing. And that’s good for them and if anybody wants to join one let me know.

I’ll hook you up. But the reason I mentioned that is because back in the day I was really interested in improving my life and being more like my up line. They were living a good life. They were building their business.

They were doing all the right things. They had a happy marriage. Good strong kids that were doing well in school. I wasn’t married yet and I didn’t have any kids yet but that’s what I wanted. I wanted the same things that they had.

So I just did what they told me to do and so they gave me some cassette tapes back then and I listened to them. But what I ended up doing that I think was accidentally genius because I wasn’t scared to walk around with my headphones and I wasn’t scared to listen to these tapes all day long EVERYDAY.

So I literally had tapes that I would listen to from the time I woke up to the time I went to sleep. It probably was a little goofy seeing me walk around with headphones in the office. But I got so much good content and I was so jazzed up about learning and hearing what these people had to say that I just kept going from tape to tape. I went through hundreds of tapes.

I’ve taken that same process and I’ve duplicated it again and again in my life and my career. I have been hired by some very large fortune 100 companies to come in and build a product or come in and create a sales channel or market a product and I don’t know what their product is.

For me to be able to sell a product I need to know it understand it, I need to tear it apart I need to really immerse myself in what their product is. I’ve done that by just reading everything that they have ever put out on their product. Talking to everybody I possibly could.

Studying as much as I can. Studying the competition. And just immersing myself in knowing everything there ever was to know about that product.

Often times I tell people that I’m really smart but the smart thing I really do knows more about the subject matter than anybody else. That takes immersion.

It takes a lot of time and effort. What I’m doing right now especially to build my internet marketing business is I’m getting around people that are well above my level doing things that are much larger than I am doing today and I am just learning and listening. Now I’m not taking everything that they say and trying to act on it because I’d be running all over the place trying all kinds of things.

I have my game plan for how I’m building my business and what I’m doing but I’m listening to audios constantly. I travel a lot so I’ve got my headphones on. I’m listening to these audios in the airport, on the airplane, in the rental car, on the way to my hotel. I really am immersing myself in this training.

I don’t have like one training program I am going through I have a whole lot of different mediums that I am listening to. Some of them are training programs, Some of them are podcasts, Some of them are YouTube videos. Anything that I find that I believe is really quality and is in line with what I am trying to learn and trying to do I want to listen to it.

I don’t want to listen to it just one time.  That’s something quite interesting to me that people will read a book one time and never read it again. People will listen to an audio one time and never listen to it again or watch a video and never watch it again. I’m watching to gain the secret nuggets, the little golden nuggets and the jewels that are included in the audio program.

That’s why it has to be quality content. If there are NO nuggets in there, if there’s nothing to learn. There are no hidden jewels in there then it is really not worth my time. But most of the stuff that I am listening to again and again I am really trying to immerse myself into that topic so that I can become an expert .I can use that in my business so that it becomes second nature.

They say repetition is the mother of skill. So if you just keep listening to something over and over I believe you’re going to get more and more out of it. Now you get pretty bored pretty quickly if you keep listening to the same audio program again and again. So what I do is I create playlists and I put those on an i-Pod and just listen to them again and again.

Especially when I am traveling and moving around. I may not be hearing every single word the speaker is saying but I am getting the concepts and often times I am subconsciously hearing things. I’m not even thinking about it. I’m just carrying my luggage from the car into the airport and I’m learning. So I would strongly encourage you to try to immerse yourself. To get podcasts.

To get YouTube videos. You can go and use Torch which is a web browser. It has the ability to strip the audio out of any YouTube video. Then take that and put it on your iPod and listen to it again and again. There’s lots of good free content out on YouTube. If you’ve got a DVD program or an audio program take the audios from it and put them on an iPod and listen to them again and again. Don’t be afraid to walk around with some headphones on.

If you want to be a little more discrete about it Motorola has some headphones that rest on the back of your neck and come around and fit into your ears so when somebody is looking at you from the front they can’t even tell that you’ve got headphones in. And they are Bluetooth so you don’t have that wire dangling down. So you can have your iPod in your pocket.

But I don’t really care. I walkaround. I have a really nice pair of Bose headphones I bought a very long time ago. 10 or 12 years ago and I’m still using them today. Talk about quality product.  I walk around with those Bose headphones all the time. I can use them to make a telephone call or just listen.

If I can do anything today let me encourage you to take whatever it is you’re trying to learn whatever it is you’re trying to master, just immerse yourself in it. Master everything you possibly can about your topic and subject and become that expert by being immersed in it.

If you know a little bit about a lot of things it’s going to be a lot more difficult for you to convey value to your customers and to your subscribers. If you really immerse yourself and really become an expert on something I think you’re customers will see the value.
