We are going to be talking mainly in this article about why you would want to start your own business. Running a self-owned business is not for everyone, let’s face it. Some are brilliant workers and others are brilliant business minded individuals. Rarely both, might I add.
Being the owner of a business has one major benefit. In your business, you get to work on the things that matter to you the most. The things that you are most passionate about, you don’t have anyone else telling you what you must put your time and energy into. It’s up to you.
In owning your own business, you are also going to be educated most all the time. You will face many challenges of course, but each challenge is a golden opportunity to learn something new. Are you the type of person that enjoys constantly being educated? Then owning a business is great for you.
As a business owner, obviously, if you run your business properly you will make more money. You will be able to decide how much of the profit you are going to keep. Also how much money you want to re-invest, save, and pay employees.
All of these decisions you can not make when working under someone else because it is not your place to decide. That is why it is a huge advantage of being independent. Owning and running your business successfully, provides more job security. It is not always the case that you are 100% secure in a major corporate job or highly paid government position.
Often times they will kick you to the curb simply because they have found someone with better qualifications than you. I have seen this happen so many times over the years. Then I opened my eyes and realized that I am not immune to this. That is when I really put effort into my own business.
Back in the day, I used to work for General Electric, this was the company to work for back then. They were known as a wealthy, well-organized business, they had never laid anyone off at the time and I was in a very comfortable position. I had the opportunity to have a career swap and so I joined a startup company nearby. Well, just after I left, GE began their first round of lay-offs.
Just goes to show that you are never safe. Corporate businesses need to stay afloat, even if it means getting rid of many people at once. Independence is great if utilized correctly. One thing I always like to say to myself is not to overthink it. Nike it, just do it.
Are you thinking of, or already owning your own business? No doubt you want your business to do well. Why not let someone who has already succeeded show you the ropes?
