Why start a home-based business? There has never been a better time to start a home business of your own, more and more people are beginning to understand the balance between work and life. Not to mention family responsibilities. Let’s face it, there are just not enough hours in the day to balance a great nine-to-five career and your family and social time.
Consider some of the challenges you face with working in an office every day. The dreaded commute from home to the office, sometimes in heavy traffic. The hours that are nowhere near flexible, the boring office routines. The limited time for family or personal vacation, because you are working your life away to make other people’s dreams come true.

Smartphones are now being used to do things that were unheard of until recently. Things like scheduling meeting and staying in touch with a customer, social media is booming and in the last few years, it has become a portal to promote products and services. Restrictions on the time, ability and cost of making physically printed material are no longer keeping you down either.
Marketing now revolves mostly around emails, banners, affiliate marketing and so much more. Email communication with clients makes it so much easier to stay in touch, and gone are the days of anyone needing to stand in front of a customer and present their case. It has widely been replaced by webinars and teleconferencing.
Before you jump straight into trying to start a home-based business, you need to understand a very real phenomenon called the glass ceiling effect. It is how different people perceive you in different ways. It is how they will build a mental image of you. How do they reach these conclusions? They form an impression of you, based on the first time they interact with your brand.
If it is a negative perception, it is near impossible to break. The worst of all is that the harshest critics you’ll ever face are close friends and family members. To make hem change their minds might take multiple success stories.
So as a recap, working and earning a lot of money is definitely possible. Make sure your products and services always create a good impression when looked at by a customer or prospect.
