The Art of Emails

The Art of Emails

What should go into your emails that you are sending to your subscribers? What are potential customers going to read and how are you going to attract them. Emails that I write consist of a compelling headline, and then obviously the content. I like to use a basic format like a header, body text, and then footer to close it all off.

Now you do not have to use this style of format. You can change the method up to what works for you. I include some links at the bottom of all my emails, for example, to engage my customers and prospects a little more. There are some do’s and don’t’s, Things that work regularly and things that you need to avoid.

Most of my emails are text-based, some of them might have very little graphics in them, or they might have some HTML or links in there. I keep the HTML, graphics, and attachments down to a minimum to ensure a higher open rate and improved chances of deliverability.

A general rule of thumb.

If you can make your email along the same lines of a grandparent sending an email to a grandchild, usually an excellent opening, descriptive body copy and a beautiful closing, and perhaps even maybe linking to something or a small attachment, that is often it. It’s all you need.

Do not go out and send gigantic Jpeg’s of product ads, five different pictures in an add, completely formatted fully HTML rich emails. The spam filters look for these key tell signs and your chances of getting that email to your customer efficiently? Zero.

When you are writing your body copy for your email, you want to write it in a word processor that has no editing. Something like notepad or similar so that it is not adding any special characters in there. You want it to be fundamental in other words. Keep about 65 characters per line that is what most email clients can view.

Reason being, different email hosts, wrap text differently. You do not want your email to be out of the border when displayed by a different host. Some people will delete your email because they now have to scroll left and right to read your email. Just keep that in mind.

A plus side to keeping your content ‘short and sweet’ is that it will look very tidy. You would hate for your content to look messy and bulky. The idea behind all of this is professionalism. Always remember that!
