Wherever you are in life, you are in one of these four categories:

Employee

Business investor

I was sitting in my office at half-past four the other morning, and I was thinking about where my friends and acquaintances were on their journey. Most of us today are in the first category, employees. Working under or most times, being directed by a boss is not always fun. 

When I ask someone what kind of business person they are, most of them tell me they are teachers or managers. I then respond by acknowledging that they are an employee. And that is what it boils down too. Whether you are a manager, even a general manager, you work for someone. You are dependent on the person who is above you.

The threat of losing your job is also going to be present in whatever industry you are. I have gone over this before but I will keep it short. Back in the day, I was working for General Electrics, I those days everyone and their mom wanted to work for GE. If you worked for GE, you had “made it.” 

I got bored so I started looking at other options. I decided to leave GE and work for a start-up company. My inlaws lost their minds when I told them my decision. Within 90 days, GE, a company who had never laid an employee off began their first round of layoffs. My office was closed, so I would have lost my job for sure. 

It just goes to show that you are never fully secure. Before you think I am trying to convince you that you are doomed, all I am saying is that you need to think ahead. Today, many people are thinking of becoming self-employed business people. Being a self-employed business person gives you the peace of mind that being an employee can not.
